Marshall Likes Mozart – Not the B-52’s
I often play music while I’m cleaning house, straightening my desk or doing other menial chores that don’t require much thought.
Yesterday I was feeling rather funky and put one of my favorite CD’s into my Mac – The B-52’s. Love Shack happens to be one of my favorite numbers, and I like to rock out – “I got me a car, it’s as big as a whale” …..erase the visual of the fifty-three year old rockin’ out. Nobody needs that!!
Marshall however, stood up in his wire crate and trembled in the corner. When I noticed it I instantly turned the music off. Curious now, I played a few different CD’s. He wasn’t so fond of ABBA, nor did he like James Taylor, Sugarland, or Placido Domingo. Madame Butterfly had him turning around and around. So I went a different route. Beethoven wasn’t good, nor was Bach. I wondered if it was too much for his overloaded nervous system. I put in a CD of Mozart – Eine Kleine. He sat down. He quit his trembling. Then suddenly he threw back his head and howled at the top of his lungs, and it was an odd howl because his vocal chords are so damaged, but he howled none-the-less. Sharkey and Charm instantly joined in and it was a festival of Eine Kleine Howl Music. When they all quit he finally nestled into his blankets as content as can be.
This morning I put in some Christmas music and he seemed agitated over that also. So I put him in his other crate in the front room and he seemed happy enough. I’ll try the experiment in a month or so and see if the reaction is the same. But for now, Marshall shall get Mozart while in my office!

Interesting thing about Mozart, that in a study I read about, children's IQ scores increased when being tested if Mozart was played during the tests.
It has also been known to help quiet fussy babies (and dogs, now.)
Merry Christmas and a Very Happy New Year!
