Dog In Socks

Not exactly Dr. Seuss, but it works for us. Sharkey has allergies, and because of this sometimes she chews her feet until they bleed.

I’ve tried everything, including a cone. But when I use the ‘cone of shame’ as we call it, Sharkey’s lays down where she is and won’t budge. She won’t get up to eat, move, drink, NOTHIN! So, last night I resorted to this.

I took a pair of my cotton socks, cut them off at the heel, and got out the painters tape! Yes, I know, rather Rube Goldberg, but it works. The expression on Charm’s face when she looks at Sharkey is “Your mom dresses you funny!”

Sharkey’s so used to wearing silly outfits she doesn’t try to chew them off….at least not much. I have her under my watchful eye in the office today. It might look ridiculous, but so far, it’s keeping her from chewing her feet and keeping the ointment on.

Hi,
I read your article.  Our Bichon,Monty, has licked one of his paws til it is raw.  I tried putting a sock with duct tape, but he tears everything off.   He has been wearing the cone and it's a nuisance.  We only take it off when he's going for a walk.  He can't stop licking.  Any suggestions or advice?  Thanks.   PS.--Sharkey looks cute in socks.

We have used toddler's socks before.  They work great for big dogs.  Maybe some baby socks would work for Sharkey.  Hope she feels better.

Aw, sorry that she has those allergies, but it's a great idea! Far better than the "cone of shame"
